As we mentioned in our last post, I.M. Chait’s upcoming Natural History auction is full of great stuff. African game rugs are one area where the auction delivers some big bargains. The first and most baller game rug in the catalog is the felt-backed skin of Africa’s largest cat, the lion. Lionskin rugs are among the most sought-after prizes by big game hunters, and a typical lion hunt in East Africa runs about $45,00 to $50,000. This lionskin rug is a deal with a bid range of $2,750 to $3,500. More deals can be had on zebraskin and giraffeskin rugs, priced at $1,200-$1,400 and $3,500-$4,500 respectively and pictured in the thumbs below.
