A DJ’s Dream: World’s Largest Music Collection For Sale

The world’s largest music collection, owned by avid collector Paul Mawhinney, is up for grabs at a cost of $3 million. In the collection are about 1.5 million 45s, a million+ LPs, 300,000 CDs, thousands of 78s, and a lot of miscellaneous cassettes, eight-tracks, etc. Most of the music comes from independent record labels and every genre of American music is represented. Unsurprisingly, more than half of the records in the collection are new.
Mawhinney bought his first record 60 years ago and hasn’t stopped buying them since. When his collection hit 160,000 records the Mawhinney’s wife forced him to move them from his house to a 16,000 square foot climate-controlled warehouse nearby. The owner preferably seeks a museum buyer and cites advancing age, declining health, and associated financial concerns as his reasons for selling.

what an incredible collection I cannot believe it is for sale. Who ever buys it best make sure to take good care of it. There is too much history and talent there to hear. I can Imagine. It would be great to hear when the collection gets sold.
