Rock climbing is without a doubt one of the hardest and most entertaining workouts out there. So if you’ve got the space and the cash, why not add a climbing wall to your home gym? We were curious to know which companies construct the most legit custom climbing walls, so we did some research and present to you two of our favorites: Rockwerx and American Rock Climbing.

Rockwerx

Rockwerx specializes in highly custom and permanent indoor and outdoor climbing walls made from three materials: Modular Panels, Gym Rock, and Natural Rock. The company’s walls can be found throughout the country in climbing gyms, universities, fitness centers, and other locations. We’re a fan of Rockwerx because their walls project a one-of-a-kind look and a high-quality appearance. After the jump, you’ll see two of our favorite installations done by the company.

The cost for a 6,000 square foot Rockwerx wall starts at about $240,000. And the price can run over $1 million for larger, more complex projects. But, unless your home gym is a warehouse, you might want to opt for a smaller size, which would run you considerably less.

American Rock Climbing

American Rock Climbing provides a different solution that could work for your gym or backyard: mobile climbing walls. The company makes two standard models, the Alpine and the Sierra, but it also creates custom walls as well. Of the standard selection, the Alpine is our favorite of the two walls, as it features a built-in tree and waterfall sculpted into the side of the wall (pictured below). The best part about American Rock Climbing’s walls is their quick five-minute setup time.

Whether you opt for a permanent or mobile climbing wall, be comforted by the fact that it’s an extremely safe form of exercise. Each year there are fewer injuries per participant in artificial climbing walls then there are in bowling.
