It’s Margarita Time!

It’s Friday afternoon. Why not kick start happy hour with a margarita? Over the past weekend, we had the chance to try out three new ultra-premium tequilas from up-start tequila-maker Trago. We were impressed with the results, so we thought we’d give you a quick overview of the three tequilas in Trago’s lineup and recommend our favorite for margarita mixing. We’ve also got a recommendation for the perfect household margarita machine, so make sure to keep reading after the jump.

Trago’s tequilas come in three varieties: Silver, Reposado, and Azul. Each carries a distinct taste and is meant to be mixed in a different type of drink:

  • Trago Silver (pictured left) carries a clean, smoky, and slightly spicy taste, and it mixes well with citrus juice, mint, and pomegranate juice. Retail price: $55.
  • Trago Reposado (pictured center) gives off hints of vanilla, oak, and pepper. It is best served on the rocks or in a premium margarita. Of the three Trago tequilas, this is the smoothest of the bunch and the easiest to take for non-seasoned tequila drinkers. Retail price: $65.
  • Trago Anejo (pictured right) tastes of vanilla, maple, almond, and pepper. Much to our surprise, Anejo and champagne make a good combination. Retail price: $75.

Of Trago’s three tequilas, we’d hands down recommend using the Reposado to take your margaritas up a notch. At $55 the price is fair and you won’t be disappointed. For the ultimate blended margarita, we’d also suggest checking out the Premium Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker, which quickly and easily shaves your ice, as opposed to normal blenders, which chop it. The brushed nickel finish also provides a classy look. The Concoction Maker sells for $380 and is available through Williams Sonoma.

Its great to see Tequila in a modern bottle. If it is as good as you say it is, I would love to try. I collect tequila and Trago would be an amazing addition. It’s appearance would pop right off the shelve. Where can I buy Trago? I live in New York.
