“Memento Mori” Skull Swizzle Sticks by D.L. & Co.

You might not think that mixing your whiskey with a skull-topped drink stirrer would be inspirational. But D.L. & Co., makers of the memento mori swizzle stick set, would have to disagree. While the deadly drink-stirrers depict human skulls atop a detailed femur, they are meant to remind the user that life on earth is fleeting and one should live every day to its fullest potential. Memento mori is a latin phrase that when translated, states remember that you are mortal. The term became widely used in the 15th century and became synonymous with carpe diem (seize the day).

D.L. & Co.’s skull swizzle stick set comes with four stirrers nestled in a black-lacquered box with velvet lining. A box will run you $195, and only a limited quantity remain. D.L. & Co. has also produced a number of other skull accessories in its memento mori collection. We’re a fan of the place card holders ($190, thumb 2) and the black wax skull candle ($85, thumb 3). The collection also contains skull porcelain plates, little black skull stationary, and a paperweight-like silver skull.
