Bungee Boarding: a New Way to Skim the Beach and Surf the River
July 2nd, 2008 by BallerHouseAre you planning to spend time at the beach or river this summer? If you’re into water sports and haven’t heard of bungee boarding yet, then we’ve got the water toy(s) for you. Banshee Riverboards, the pioneering company behind bungee boarding, has created two applications for its bungee system, which propels skimboard riders into the surf and up the river at speeds of up to 30 mph.
Using a high-elasticity braided rubber cord anchored to the sea floor, sand, or riverbank, the Banshee bungee system produces twice the acceleration of a wakeboard boat at full-stretch. This allows riders to hit waves with more power than traditional skimboarding and actually surf upriver.
On the beach, the bungee system works similar to a wakeboard rope, allowing the rider to release whenever he or she is ready. On the river, Banshee’s revolutionary release system connects the bungee to the board until the rider hits 30 mph, at which point the cord falls away from riverboard. With the board disconnected from the bungee, the rider can pop ollies, spins, shuvits, and perform rail slides and other board tricks.
To get started in bungee boarding, you’ll want to decide whether you’ll be spending more time at the beach or at the river. If you’re going to be at the beach, you’ll want to purchase one of Banshee’s beach packages, which connect up with a Dansforth-style or similar boat anchor and run from $199 to $550. These beach packages can be used with a traditional skimboard. If you’re going to start riverboarding, you’ll want to purchase one of Banshee’s riverboard packages, which come with a board as well as a bungee and run $299-$599.
