The Relief Chair

As the economy keeps heading into the toilet, I think we are all ready for a little relief.  Design firm Mikus Projects‘ Relief Chair won’t be any relief for your bank account, but the fresh design and comfortable stacked felt surface are sure to bring a little more comfort to your crib.

According to the designer, “the body of the chair is a layered assembly of medium-density wool felt sheets, adhered to each other and sleeved over an internal steel frame. The felt body and frame rest on break-formed stainless steel legs, with a satin finish. The composition juxtaposes weight and weightlessness with an intrepid stance. The scraps of felt generated during fabrication are reused in other Mickus Projects pieces, such as the Refill Pillow.”

The chair is now on display in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, as part of the “Fashioning Felt” exhibition.  But if you’ve got the spare cash, it’s for sale through the designer with the price available upon request.
