If you are one of those die-hard Beatles’ fans, then we’re sure you didn’t miss Saturday, October 9th, 2010 that marked Beatles’ legend – John Lennon’s 70th Birthday. Quite literally speaking, here’s your chance to mark Lennon’s birthday. Presenting, a one of a kind legendary series from Mont Blanc – The John Lennon Edition. To commemorate John’s birthday (albeit posthumously), German luxury writing instruments brand – Mont Blanc has released three exclusive sets of limited edition writing instruments – The Special Edition, Commemoration Edition 1940 and the Limited Edition 70. In designing and releasing this series, Montblanc has ensured that Lennon’s contribution continues to live on, not just through his lyrics and musical genius, but also through the ‘beauty of a timeless writing instrument’.
The John Lennon Special Edition
Consisting of all three models — a fountain pen, ballpoint pen, and roller ball, with the signature Mont Blanc fixed star on a precious black resin body that is textured like vinyl, this edition takes us back to the design of the sixties. The clip features a guitar neck with finely etched strings while the platinum-plated plaque on the pen’s body is engraved with Lennon’s famous self-portrait. The rhodium plated 18 carat gold nib bears John Lennon’s legendary peace sign.
The John Lennon Commemoration Edition 1940
Only available in the classic piston fountain pen and a roller ball style, the pens in this series are limited to 1940 pieces to mark Lennon’s birth year. The design features a sterling silver guilloche underlay with translucent white lacquer and a blue tanzanite stone adorns the guitar neck clip. The release date of “Imagine”: 02.10.1971 is engraved on the pen. Just like its special edition counterpart, the rhodium-plated 18k gold nib bears the peace symbol.
The John Lennon Limited Edition 70
This fountain pen collection is limited to 70 pieces, to mark the age he would have turned on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. It is a classy rendition to Lennon’s greatest solo ballad “Imagine” that was released in 1971; the words artistically etched all over the pen in a skeleton of white gold. The transparent resin on the barrel and cap of the pen has a blue hue that is symbolic of Lennon’s trademark blue circular glasses. The blue is also reflected in the sapphires on the guitar neck clip, alongside three diamonds that represent the chords of the song “Imagine”. The cone represents the keys of the piano –John’s instrument for the song. As in the other editions, the 18 carat gold nib bears Lennon’s self-portrait signature.
The Montblanc John Lennon Edition is now available in Montblanc boutiques worldwide. The luxury brand has, however, not released any prices, so far. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these editions will go to select cultural programs supporting musical education worldwide and the “John Lennon Education Tour Bus”, an American non-profit mobile recording studio that equips youth with the means to record and produce songs and music videos.
Now that’s what we call Imagination!
