Shaken or Stirred? Martini Cocktail Set by Miranda Watkins

How do you like to have your cocktail? Shaken or Stirred? For those that prefer their drinks shaken, British designer Miranda Watkins of Miranda Watkins Design has created Martini – a lovely travel and picnic worthy cocktail set handcrafted in Britain by A.R. Wentworth of Sheffield.

Miranda Watkins is an interdisciplinary designer in the contemporary space with a penchant for fusion design that blends minimalism and precision. She customizes designs to suit your scale, materials and appeal that spans the home as well as public spaces. Using a combination of beauty and art in her designs, she creates visually appealing, stylistic objects such as light fixtures, furniture, tableware, jewelry and her trademark kinetic mobiles. She is hugely popular in the design world and her designs have featured in publications including New York Times, Design Week and Homes and Gardens, to name a few. She has also won the Eureka Design Award in 2008 for her collaborative endeavor with A.R. Wentworth.

The Martini Set was Miranda’s response to the call for an exclusive exhibition organized and commissioned by the lifestyle magazine ‘Wallpaper Handmade’. Mind you, this is no ordinary cocktail set by some designer. It is worth noting that this handsome Cocktail Set was selected by the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum – the world’s most renowned museum of art and design for inclusion amongst their permanent collections.

The Martini set includes a pewter Cocktail shaker with a flask like shape and two Martini tumblers in pewter with a cork base. All three rest on a pewter tray that is partially encased in cork (at the bottom). The Shaker measures 265 X 92 mm, the Martini tumblers measure 80 X 125 mm while the tray measures 25 X 336 mm. The Shaker is presented in a cork casing. As with Miranda’s other designs, this one too uses high grade materials that are flawlessly finished in British workshops.

The design is simple and contemporary with ‘clean lines and gentle curves’. The combination of pewter and cork brings out its unmatched simplicity in a modern yet classic way, doing full justice to the enchanting appeal of pewter.
