Argon in a Canister from Winesave:The Ultimate Must-Have Leftover Wine Savior
January 21st, 2011 by PurnimaHave you always felt compelled to finish a bottle of wine for fear that it will deteriorate over the course of time, once the bottle has been opened? Need we add, you’re always forced to take this route, regardless of whether you like the wine or not, correct?. We’re sure you answered in the affirmative, as no one has found a worthwhile solution to this problem for over 6,500 years of winemaking. Your problem will be further compounded by the fact that the wines you buy are truly exquisite with extravagant price tags. We seem to have found a solution to this age old problem. And no, we’re not talking of installing those expensive argon dispensers that you find in bars and restaurants. Honestly, we don’t think the expense would justify your consumption. For your baller indoor bar, there is a canister style argon dispenser available that is manufactured by an Australian company called Winesave.
The canister works by being able to dispense food grade jolts of the inert, colorless, odorless and tasteless gas, Argon, into your bottle of wine. This will protect your wine for a period ranging from weeks to months without any threat from oxidation (wine’s greatest foe). Argon is two and a half times heavier than air and it displaces the oxygen in your half opened bottle and forms a barrier between the wine and air. All you have to do is squirt the gas from the canister for a precise second, keep the bottle in an upright condition, make sure the temperature is cool and you’re ready to go. You can open the bottle several times and reseal after the 1 second squirt. Sometimes, wines have even been found to improve overtime using this process.
Winesave has been tested on a variety of grapes, styles and bottles of varying ages from the relatively new to vintage and there was no deterioration in quality. It is even touted as being better than those vacuum pumps that are known to remove flavors and aromas from wines. The canister is supposed to have 50 applications. Our source at Decanter managed to achieve 80. The canister is priced at approximately US$28 which is really decent compared to the dollars you spend on purchasing the most expensive wines.
Now you can adopt the ways of a wine tasting session right in the comfort of your home by pouring wine by the glass from whichever bottle you choose to without ever having to worry about likes/dislikes or about wine spoilage over time. Just squirt from the canister and say Cheers!
