Leather Rubik’s Cube for Baller Geeks
February 1st, 2011 by DesThere are 2 types of people in this world: those who can solve a Rubik’s Cube & those that leave one on their desks to appear masterfully intelligent. The latter tend to get annoyed if you touch their desk toy, because they’ll have to spend half an hour carefully rearranging the colored stickers after you’ve gone to get it back to that “I just solved this 5 minutes ago because I was bored” state.
Now if you’re a fan of Rubik’s Cube, or you want to appear intelligent, then you might want to consider purchasing Dunhill’s leather-covered version. The cube is a “competition standard” one, meaning that if you’re super smart, you can solve this baby really quickly without the mechanisms getting stuck like the cheap plastic version or your hands getting blisters from holding onto it for too long.
The cube is covered in small pieces of shagreen leather, which is leather made from either stingray or shark skin. The squares of shagreen have been hand-applied, polished on the sides & lacquered for a smooth finish that is easy on the hands when using the cube.
This is definitely one for Ballers, but if you can’t solve it easily on your own it’ll be difficult to peel the leather squares off to rearrange them, so make sure you keep it out of reach of idle hands!
The cube is available through Dunhill’s site at $1,950.
