Retro Automobile (Fiat 500) Inspired Furniture
May 18th, 2011 by PurnimaJust when you thought furniture came in designer, vintage, contemporary, illusionary, restored and reclaimed versions, here is another spectacular twist that contributes to its luxury appeal – an automobile inspired furniture line featuring a table, console and sofa called the Fiat 500 collection.
The Fiat 500 fun furniture line has been designed by Meritalia and Lapo Elkann (hailing from the Fiat family) and was showcased at the recent Milan International Furniture Fair. The collection consists of a table called Picnic, a console called Cincinn and a sofa labeled Panorama. All three items have drawn their inspiration from the 1957 Fiat 500. The ‘PICNIC’ table, ‘CINCINN’ console and ‘PANORAMA’ sofa feature the front portion of the 70 Fiat 500. The wheels of the table are made of flexible polyurethane elastomer finish in matte black. The top of the console is tempered glass with polished aluminum supports. The console is available in varying heights. The sofa has a padded seat and backrest, both made of polyurethane with differing densities that make it exceptionally comfortable. The upholstery is available in fabric or leather with visible stitch detailing. The side wheels have a geometric design and are also made of polyurethane.
The design is unique and styling retro. If you’re wondering where you could display these fine works of furniture art, our guess is just as good as yours. The furniture is being marketed as an outdoor line. Given the specified uses, the patio or lawn might be your best bet. It reminds us of a Jean Paul Gaultier line of mobile sofas on wheels that we introduced our readers to, a few months ago, though those were strictly for uses within the home. To make a bold statement, you can rest the FIAT 500 sofa against a prominent wall. Your guests will be left wondering how you managed to drive a car into your home without any worthwhile consequence.
Given the automobile brand and its unique styling, pricing for the table is 6.900 Euros ($9,820) while the sofa retails for 5.500 Euros ($7,827) and console for 4.200 Euros ($5,977). For more information and details on how to place an order, please visit Fiat 500 Design.
