If you have a relatively large study but not too many books to do enough justice to it, you may want to consider investing in this illuminated library cum rocking chair that has an amazingly contemporary aesthetic. And we’re clearly not talking about a wall shelf library and a standard rocking armchair combination here. This is more of a reading and contemplation environment, so to speak. If you’re looking to give your home library a futuristic look, it might be a good idea to check out this circular moving library. This fascinating work of functional art called the Longform Library has been produced by British designer Thomas Mills for his own manufacturing house Ifsodoso.
The design is circular and is made entirely from handcut blonde varnished plywood. Given the circular shape, you can imagine how it allows for rocking at a pace controlled by the person occupying it. Rock it the same way as you would your grandpa’s rocking chair. 15 box units are bolted back to back to give the moving library cum rock chair its form and shape. The book shelving below the seating area gets wider at the base to give it stability. Don’t worry; the library won’t ever roll over, even if you are experienced in gymnastics. Structural Dynamics plays a key role here. Illumination is provided by means of fluorescent tubes that are embedded in the circumference. The entire unit measures 246 cm (Dia) X 100 cm wide at the base.
In today’s age, where industrial designers are trying every trick in the book to come up with unique design ideas, Thomas Mills’ work stands out as being practical, serious and functional. When baller lives get busier every minute, the Longform library will provide the much-needed personal, private and quiet nook, you’ve been yearning for.
This incredible piece of functional design marvel will set you back by a cool $9,845 plus shipping. It will arrive unassembled. Assembly takes about 2 hours. For more information and to place an order, please visit, Ifsodoso.
