Bombs Away with the Sake

June 24th, 2010 by desiree

Though it does look like the cross between an explosive device & an alien creature from another planet, rest assured that this ceramic server has no evil intentions or the ability to leave you in pieces - though we can’t guarantee your state after you’ve consumed the contents that you will be dispensing from it.

The Sake Bomb is a ceramic pouring vessel with 4 matching cups that is designed by US-based product designer Alexander Purcell. He was apparently inspired by the deadly Fugu fish & a World War II sea mine, which seem like quite unusual inspirations,  specially when you consider the origin place of sake and the country’s role in the aforementioned war… Read the rest of this entry »

New Premium Gin in a Class of its Own

April 6th, 2010 by desiree

Gin Mare

No, it’s not the new perfume for women by Yves Saint Laurent; though this gin is just as aromatic, but a whole lot more pleasant to down than the designer’s signature scents.

Gin Mare is the first and only authentic Mediterranean gin & is distilled in Spain somewhere along the Costa Dourada, the country’s ‘Gold Coast’. And while visiting the little fishing village where it’s made, might be a great way to soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere, for those times when you can’t – there’s Gin Mare.

Thanks to the distilling process & the unique recipe, the distinct flavors of the Mediterranean are at your disposal & include arbequina olive, thyme, basil & rosemary. These may sound a bit more like a herbal infusion your yoga instructor would recommend for indigestion but rest assured, there is nothing medicinal about this premium concoction – except for the copious amounts of tonic water you’ll be mixing with it!

We love the distinct bottle that is guaranteed to draw comments at dinner parties. It’s also perfect for that swanky display cabinet in the new bar you’ve just had installed. Better yet, try it as a martini.

For more information, visit the Gin Mare official site.

The World’s Most Expensive Beer

March 24th, 2009 by BallerHouse

luxury beerDannish beer maker Carlsberg has unveiled the second beer in its uber-expensive Vintage trilogy series: Vintage No. 2, selling for $367 per bottle.

As the Moodie Report describes the luxury beer, “Vintage No. 2 was matured in J.C. Jacobsen’s original crypt-like cellar from 1847 where it has been stored in French oak casks for 100 days. The beer has a jet-black color and espresso-like foam, revealing flavors of vanilla and cocoa/mocha. The aroma contains hints of tar and ropes, which come from the peatsmoked Scottish malt, transported from Scotland solely for this brew.” Each bottle ishand-stenciled with a lithographic print. Recommended pairings include oysters, shellfish, Parma ham, cheese, chocolate and crème brûlée.

Vintage No. 2 will be sold online and from the Carlsberg Visitors and at five upscale Copenhagen restaurants: Noma, NIMB, Premisse, Kong Hans and The Paul. Six hundred bottles of the world’s most expensive beer will be produced.
