Oudhout Turns Old Wood into Modern Icons
March 25th, 2008 by BallerHouseDiederick Kraaijeveld (aka Oudhout) is a Dutch artist who specializes in transforming recycled wood into large-scale replicas of popular cultural icons, like the 51-inch wide Dodge Charger pictured above. In his first solo New York show, coming April 9 at Cheryl Hazan Projects (466 Washington Street), Oudhout will be rolling out a pair of black Chuck Taylors, a giant old school Coke bottle, the Charger, and other works.
Unbelievably, Oudhout does not use a drop of paint in any of his work. Instead, he uses previously painted planks, salvaged during intensive trips along dumpsters, old Amsterdam canal mansions, run down farms and faraway coasts.
